The ‘Use-it-up’ Project (5)

leave a comment »

Another month has whizzed past, and although I hadn’t meant for these to be a monthly thing like those Monthly Favorites thing that a lot of people do, it does seem that I have been really on the ball for finishing my products! I guess this is actually more meaningful for me rather than a monthly favorites because I actually am using items up instead of buying and having clutter all around.

I am going over to the US in mid-April though, so I don’t think I will be able to stick to a 3 months ban but 2 months is pretty good too, right? 😉

Ok so back to the stars for this post…

1) Skinfood – Pink Salt Body Scrub

why did I buy it? I thought it smelled good and the texture seems grainy but not too harsh when I tried it in the shop.

first impressions? It feels very slippery so I don’t feel like it’s really ‘scrubbing’ my body.

upon finishing? This is not a repurchase for me because of the reason above. I like to feel that the product is exfoliating well but not harsh, and this product just doesn’t give me the feeling that it exfoliates well and leaves my skin feeling as soft as the Bodyshop’s polishes.

2) Pantene – Night Miracle Leave on Conditioner

why did I buy it? because I was in Batam and it was cheap! I remember buying a lot of hair products at that time hahah :p

first impressions? don’t really feel like it improved my hair condition but at least it is not sticky which is important because I use it as a night treatment. you can use it in the morning if you wash your hair at that time.

upon finishing? I ended up really liking this product! My hair condition was really bad when I first started using it, but I started taking care of my hair with weekly hair masks and applying leave in conditioner or serum regularly. So my hair started to show signs of improvement and after I use this leave in conditioner, I can feel that it does make my hair smoother 😀

3) The Body Shop – Olive Glossing Shampoo

why did I buy it? It was part of a travel kit. I wouldn’t buy an olive shampoo because I really hate the smell!

first impressions? no weird smell and it leaves my hair tangle-free without any conditioner! o.0

upon finishing? Would love to get this in full size but have not seen it around in the shops T__T

4) SilkNaturals – Mineral Blush in Heavenly

why did I buy it? a few years back, when mineral makeup was the ‘in’ thing, there were tons of sprees on livejournal and I joined the Silknaturals one and got a few blushes because they were said to be amazing.

first impressions? Heavenly is supposed to be a dupe for MAC’s stereo rose which was a limited edition product which was highly popular. I do not have Stereo Rose but this blush is SO pretty!

upon finishing? most days it worked for me, some days it didn’t. which is weird actually, still I’m quite happy with this product although it is not a holy grail color for me.

5) Maybelline – Babylips in Cherry

why did I buy it? I got this in a lucky draw that I won!

first impressions? I was skeptical on how good it would be but it really surprised me. When I applied it, it didn’t seem extremely moisturizing but it did do its job so I was pleasantly surprised!

upon finishing? I’ve now started on a second tube which is in Orange and that smell is just amazing! I think it is great value especially when there is a promotion price of $2.90! The usual price is $5.90 which is pretty reasonable too.

What I’ve been wearing…(8)

with 2 comments

1) dress from ASOS

It is a really lovely textured dress but I can’t get it to show on the camera! Definitely will be one of my favorite dresses so I will take a proper photo the next time :p

2) dress from Smooch, bag from Samantha Vega

LOVE the fluorescent pink but it does give me a bit of wardrobe malfunction. Am going to try hollywood fashion tape the next time I wear it!

3) top from Forever21, shorts from Love, Bonito, watch from ASOS

4) dress from Smooch

Wore this for first day of work 😀 which is almost a month ago =/

5) dress from Forever21, cardigan from Cotton On

I have been VERY busy with work. So far so good, but I miss the days when I can wake up whenever I feel like instead of being tortured by the alarm. In fact, the most difficult part of work is when I have to wake up! T___T

Hopefully, I will still have time to blog. Upcoming post that I am excited about will be my trip to Ho Chi Minh city. Keep a lookout for it!

Lucky!

with 2 comments

At the beginning of this Lunar New Year, I was a little worried about how 2012 would turn out to be for me. This is because I am a dragon and supposedly it’s not a good year for me!

However, I received some surprises that made me think that I might not fare as badly as I thought I would.

1) First, I won a steamcream in a giveaway held by Makeupstash. It was something that I had wanted for quite some time but I never got around to getting it so I was really happy that I managed to win it! 😀

2) Elaine held a Valentine’s day giveaway and sadly I did not win. I shouldn’t feel sad at all since the chances are so small BUT she held another surprise giveaway and I actually was the lucky winner! megusta.jpeg

3) As you guys should know by now, I’m on a self-imposed makeup ban so I was feeling rather forlorn that I’m missing out in spring collections. But I was chosen to attend Maybelline’s product launch and they gave a lovely goodie bag.

SO, STAY POSITIVE EVERYONE!

I pray for more good things to come along my way and everyone’s way. Hope you guys had a great Monday, 4 more days to WEEKEND! 😉

The Faceshop CO-Q10 sheet mask (Review)

with 2 comments

When I was in Korea, I bought some The Face Shop masks because they were going for ~$1/piece as compared to SG’s price of $5/piece. I did not go crazy and bought a million pieces, in fact I think most of the masks that I bought were actually for friends/relatives!

Here’s today’s star!

CoQ-10 was one of the masks that I bought for myself. I have always enjoyed products that contain CoQ-10 because of the way the products made me feel. That being said, you do have to use a product for some time before seeing any results.

The cotton felt slightly rough against the skin instead of silky soft (but if you are not fussy, it should be perfect). The mask is slightly too big for my face so there were actually more than 1cm hanging below my chin area. I tried to stick it to my neck but it just wouldn’t stay so the essence just kept dripping which is quite irritating actually.

For the price I paid, I would say that it had done a good job but if you are willing to pay more, there is definitely better masks out there.

Thanks for reading! X

Do you dare to take the leap?

leave a comment »

I really like how this photo turned out.

Instead of being-in-your-face beautiful nature, there is the ugly concrete on the floor. I can’t really see how the other side looks like, but the mountains, lush grass, and blue skies look pretty damn good.

I know that if somehow I manage to overcome it by taking a few extra steps I will be able to bask in the full glory.

LIFE should be like this. Having to work hard before you enjoy, but the results must always be in sight to motivate you.

It’s Tea Time!

with 5 comments

The week before I started my new job, I went for afternoon tea at TWG @ Marina Bay Sands.

An interesting story I found – about how afternoon tea came about 😉

Legend has it that afternoon tea was started in the mid-1800s by the Duchess of Bedford. Around this time, gas or oil light was introduced in wealthier homes, and eating a late dinner (around eight or nine PM) became fashionable. At the time, there were only two meals each day — a mid-morning, breakfast-like meal and the other was an increasingly late dinner-like meal. The story goes that the Duchess found herself with a “sinking feeling” (likely fatigue from hunger during the long wait between meals) and decided to have some friends over for assorted snacks and tea (a very fashionable drink at the time). The idea of an afternoon tea gathering spread across high society and became a favorite pastime of ladies of leisure. Later, it spread beyond the highest elites and became more accessible for some other socioeconomic groups. (http://coffeetea.about.com/od/historyculture/a/High-Tea-Vs-Afternoon-Tea.htm)

As much I enjoy sitting at nice cafes sipping teas and having a scone, I haven’t done it much because I don’t have friends who are as free as me. So I have never tried TWG before, despite it being a fairly popular place in Singapore with several outlets all at prime locations.

And of course, I adore that experience – picking at my scones, spreading it with whipped cream and jam and sipping the tea. It is very tempting for me to get nice china to put at home so I can replicate the experience every weekend afternoon.

Unfortunately, I have started work already which is why I am not blogging as frequently. I am slowly getting used to it and hopefully everything will go on smoothly! Need to earn more money for the finer things in life, and also to pay for the wedding.

Vote for me!

with 2 comments

After I left the Maybelline event, I got approached by Hakubi’s people to take part in their contest.

Turns out, they are searching for the next face for Hakubi and you get to win $3,000! The above photo is in the goodie bag that they gave me and I am pretty excited about trying it. I will post a review when I get around to consuming it because I just recovered from a fever and don’t want to go back to supplements so soon.

Anyway, this post is to pull votes for me! Also if you think you have a chance, you can enter the contest too =p

BUT, STILL VOTE FOR ME PLEASE! 😀

Go to this link here: https://apps.facebook.com/hakubiphotocontest/contests/198451/voteable_entries/45689836

THANK YOU! ❤
