Convocation – 21 April 2012

leave a comment »

21 April is one of the most anticipated days in 2012. For me, because it’s my convocation day! Honestly I thought I would be super happy that day and all, but all I felt was tiredness. Probably because I had already stopped school for half a year and the excitement of being done with studying has already worn off.

And also, because I had to rush from the airport straight home to take a quick shower and do my make up on the way to Fullerton. I was in US for a work trip and the jet lag + the tiredness from meetings all week just made me extremely grumpy.

But anyway, I am GLAD that it is finally over and I got to wear the graduation cap!

*all photos were taken by my sis*

It was a quick ceremony since our course wasn’t very big (~80people).

Look at my tired face! But still managed a big smile for the camera hahah 😉

Since Fullerton was just next to the Singapore river, we went out for some photos after the reception.

some of my classmates…many memories of mugging together, and glad that we do not have to mug anymore but just chill out over a cup of ice cream.

Now on the next chapter of my life…this new job and a new home 🙂

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups – porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal; some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite. He told his guests to help themselves to the coffee.

After everyone had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said, “If you noticed, all the nice looking, expensive cups have been taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones.

“While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. Be assured that the cup adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases, it is just more expensive, and in some cases, even hides what we drink.

“What all of you really wanted was coffee. But you consciously went for the best cups. And then you began eyeing each other’s cups, to see who had the best one.

“Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life. And the type of cup we have does not define, nor change, the quality of life we live.

“Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee. Savor the coffee, not the cups!

“The happiest people don’t have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

“Live simply. Speak kindly. Care deeply. Love generously.”

I have seen this story before but now that I have grown older, it just makes me realize how important it is to really stop and smell the roses.

I would say that taking the half a year break (before starting on this new job) was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I started to really drink my coffee instead of just gulping it down while reading my emails, I exercised more often and regularly, I baked and read more, I did all the things I like and my temper was much better instead of always being impatient all the time.

And most importantly, I travelled. Extensively, if you remember all my traveloges. When I was young, travelling was about buying all the things I cannot get in Singapore. Now, I will stil buy things that I can’t get in Singapore but that’s no longer the highlight. The trip is all about pretending to live in that country and live life like they do 😉 of course, I do a lot of touristy stuff as well…all the fun is there no?

Really should try and remind myself from time to time not to be too caught up in work and chasing after all the material things…Have you taken the time to savor your coffee recently? 🙂

Saturday Date at Hatched

leave a comment »

The other day, I woke up earier than my usual Saturday time and had a strong craving for eggs benedict.

So I dragged T out of bed, dressed up and decided for us to go Hatched! Hatched is a place that serves all-day breakfast and specializes in egg dishes.

Located @ 26 Evans Road, #01-06 Evans Lodge. Call  6735 0012 for reservations!

Outfit of the day: chiffon top from Cotton On, basic spag from forever21, crochet shorts from Smooch

And ta-da! My lovely eggs benedict ^-^

I would come back here for a casual meal since it’s so convenient for us, but there are definitely better eggs benedict out there! Oh and I feel that it is so overpriced in SG…the other time when I was in Melbourne, 1 egg benedict is only AUS$4? Over here, it’s SGD$9 excluding service charge and taxes T__T

And 2 silly photos to end my post…the weather was crazy that day, hitting 36 degreesC!

Thanks for reading! Xx

How is everyone’s Sunday coming along? ^-^

I have some cupcakes in the oven right now, so I thought I could quickly finish up this post. Sunday seems to have become a baking day for me, am currently trying out different types of cupcakes. Also, we did some minor work to the house (like wallpaper, and added a bed and coffee table) so it is even more comfortable than before! Which is not good, because it only encourages me to be even more solitary ;P

1) Dress from Smooch, scarf from Gap

2) dress from a random shop in Korea, jacket from Hervelvetvase

3) Knit top from Love, Bonito, skirt from H&M, bag from a random shop in Korea, heels from Zara

4) Cardigan & skirt from H&M, tank top from forever21

5) Dress from Target, bag from a random shop in Korea

Bellabox – May Edition!

with 3 comments

Ok, I finally caved in. After seeing everybody tweet/blog about it, I thought I could sign up and see what’s the fuss about.

Based on your personal profile, our team at Bellabox handpicks the latest, deluxe beauty products and sends them straight to your door each month. Bellabox has links with all the top cosmetics companies from London to New York and Paris giving you access to the hottest products to hit the market.

Each Bellabox contains 5 carefully selected products, ranging from the newest lip-gloss to high-end shampoos, makeup, new product innovations (Yes you can be the first to sample the newest scientific breakthroughs in beauty) and much much more!

I was waiting impatiently for mine to arrive after people started tweeting that they had received theirs! In my mind, I was praying REALLY hard for the Candydoll samples but I didn’t get it so I was a little pissed about my box and threw it aside for a few days hahaha.

But anyway here’s what I got:

This is my first Bellabox so I can’t compare between preferring having this bag or an actual box. Would be nice if they revert to the box again so I can see what’s the fuss about!

*info below extracted from leaflet provided and my own impressions follow*

1) Enavose Cellogist Youth Guard Cream *INNOVATIVE* – Pamper your skin with this luxurious treatment. Nourish your skin cells from deep within, boost its natural restorative processes and fight the numerous causes of premature aging.

This brand is new to Singapore (I think) and I do not have any impression of it except from Kimoko’s reviews. I am trying to work anti-aging products into my regime but I am still trying to figure out the best way to do so, so I guess I won’t be trying this product out soon (in a couple of months).

2) Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Gold Ultra Restorative Capsules *LUXE* – Restore youthful cushion and ageless skin while visbly fading age spots and the look of fine wrinkles. These potent and purely intensive single dose capsules deliver breakthrough retexturizing results that you can see.

Another meh for me, because my mom has this and I can try it any time I want T___T

3) Dirty Works All of a Lather Body Wash *NEW* – Have some good clean fun with this glamorous and feminine bath, body and skincare line. You will be the belle of the ball!

4) Macadamia Natural Oil *TREND* – Pamper your hair with this treatment containing macadamia and argan oils to nourish and rejuvenate. For ultra smooth, manageable & shiny hair. You can reduce drying time by an amazing 40-50%!

Ok, finally something that I am very interested in. I have argan oil by Skinfood, works great and smells amazing so I’m hoping this won’t disappoint!

5) Sally Hansen Hard as Nails *FIND* – The original nail clinic in a bottle! Helps prevent cracking, splitting and chipping. Gives your nails a hard, smooth and chip resistant surface.

I already have this too!! *supersadface* It IS a good product but it will be nicer to receive something I don’t already have.

All in all, for people still on the fence on wondering whether to sign up or not….I think it’s better to not pray too hard for a certain product (like me) if not you might end up disappointed. I’m going to stay subscribed for another 2 months before deciding if I should cancel. Hopefully it will get better now that I know how it’s like!

For fellow Bellabox subscribers, what do you think of this month’s box? Xx

I did not mean to fall off the face of Earth.

Hi there, it feels so weird to be tying in this space.

I felt terribly ill last week, had an extremely high fever and had injection 2 days in a row. All is well now, though my tummy is still not very strong and I am suspecting that it’s the leftover side effects of the medication I was taking last week.

Now, with less than 2 months away to the wedding, I suddenly feel very nervous having not getting so many things done! Also, I absolutely have no idea what I should do for entertainment and what-not so please leave a comment if you have any idea. My theme would be BEACH.

My life is 80% work these days since it keeps me so busy. To focus on the positive side instead of always grumbling about being tired, I am glad that I have more responsibilities now and also that my exposure is much more.

For my precious 20% of the time left, I try to breathe. Recently, T has gotten the new iPad and I am doing a little reading every night before I sleep.

Definitely will try to blog more! I have a lot of topics that I want to write about, photos that I want to post. Xx

4) Boon Lay Nasi Lemak stall at Novena mrt station, thanks to Cecilia’s recommendation when I was craving badly for nasi lemak but has no idea where to get it.
