Top Beauty Products for 2013

leave a comment »

Finally finished my 2013 beauty favorites! took me a few attempts since it’s quite a lot to write at one go.

I chose 13 products, and I decided to include skincare and makeup for my mix since I have cut down a lot on my makeup purchases the past year and am more concerned with skincare now that I am 25.

The products I have chosen are items that I reached for very often and am really impressed with their abilities the past year! Hope you enjoyed looking through them 🙂

*Products listed in no particular order of preference*

IMG_5310

1) Clarins Massage Oil

I actually only start using it in the month of December but I already love it so much!!! I never think that my skin is dry but after a few people commenting on my skin, I decided to take the plunge and start using this since I got it in DFS in August along with stretch mark cream and whatnot. At first, it felt kind of weird to be using oil but it really does moisturizes my body better than body lotion so I am alternating between this and body lotion now depending on my mood that night. But seriously, this smells so good. Definitely keen to check out more massage oils in the future.

IMG_5313

2) Simple Cleansing Wipes

2013 has been a year of being into wipes because I don’t like to fuss around with cotton pads anymore. I still use Bioderma to take off the remaining junk before jumping into the shower but Simple usually leaves my face pretty clean already. Some brands of wipes only take off certain foundations particularly well or BB creams. This is where Bioderma comes in as a  QC step haha.

Back to the simple wipes, I love its size. It is big enough for my huge face and it has a slight exfoliating texture that helps to take the makeup really well without being too harsh.

3) Clarisonic Mia

When I first start using the Clarisonic, I really didn’t notice much of a difference to my skin. I guess that’s better than other people who said they experienced a purging stage before getting better skin. Anyway, I stopped using it for a while after because my brush head was getting dirty. Guess what? I begin to notice a few breakouts every now and then! Immediately, I went to purchase new brush head and started using this religiously again. It really minimizes breakouts, and cleanses well. I am currently using the sensitive brush head, and only using it on alternate days. This is really a good investment, even though it’s kind of annoying having to change the brush head every 3 months.

IMG_5311

4) Rimmel London Wake Me Up Foundation in 100 Ivory

One of the rare base products that I can use on its own and the color matches my face perfectly. And of course, the consistency is what I like as well, easily blendable and it is a light-medium coverage product. It also really wakes up my skin like it claims! Saw reviews that some people don’t like it because it is too glowy for them but I love a glowy base on most days. One pump is also perfect for my whole face. I don’t seem to have use it up much at all, but that’s because I have a ridiculous number of base products and I try to rotate them as much as I can. I seriously wonder how do people go through bases like nobody’s businesses? Like one month later, they have finished half a foundation! I wish I could do that, so I have excuses to buy more base products but it. is. so. difficult. T__T

5) Diorskin Nude Tan in 001 Auora

I am so glad I picked this up in 2012 because I really fell in love with it in 2013. It is light enough to be used as an all over powder to give my face that slightly bronzy look but I can also build it up to be a very light contour.

Packaging is gorgeous as well, like all Dior’s products. In general, I haven’t been disappointed with Dior’s makeup products before and am itching to try more products from them, especially their lip glow.

IMG_5315

6) Benefit’s Benetint

A cult item from Benefit, something that I have gotten before 2013 but never really got around to using it much till in 2013. Mostly uses it as a cheek tint rather than a lip tint, and it gives a pretty flush. A huge plus point is that it smells really good, as most Benefit’s cheek products do. The only thing I don’t really like about it is that it stains my fingers after application but I never seem to notice it last throughout the day. The blush stays on my cheeks for a pretty long time though!

7) Benefit’s Porefessional

Another cult favorite! As I grow older, I noticed that my pores got bigger so I decided to give this a go. It really does cover up the pores pretty well! I don’t use it religiously as a primer, but only if I noticed huge pores after my makeup. And this is something that I really like about the product, it can be applied after powder and it blends in seamlessly without affecting the rest of the crap I’ve got on my face for that day. I guess I need to fix the root of my problem for my pores, which is to do more masks and also find a pore tightening essence!

8) Benefit Gimme Brow

My brow artist used this on me one day after my brow waxing session and it is so good that I bought this on the spot. Very fuss-free and keeps my brow hairs in place! I was contemplating with the idea of getting a brow gel to set my brow pencil on days my brow hairs go a little crazy but with this product, it gives me color and put my hairs in place! Definitely something that impressed me a lot, and will be very helpful once I have baby T and don’t have much time to fuss around with makeup anymore.

IMG_5312

9) Neutrogena Lip Balm in Fresh Papaya

As you guys may know, I am an avid youtube beauty guru follower. However, only Emilynoel83 ever raved about this product! But I decided to go ahead and pick this up when I was in CVS anyway because she really seemed to love them. And I did not regret it! It is very moisturizing, and gives a natural gloss to my lips too. Now I regret not picking up the other color I was eyeing but maybe next time.

Oh and it has a sweet scent to it as well! Major plus point.

IMG_5308

10) Stila Lip Glaze in Jack Frost and Jolly

Another product that smells yummy, notice the recurring theme? Lol. The color is not obvious at all as you can see from my swatch but it does give my lips a bit of shimmer so they don’t look so blah. Some days, or most days for me, I just don’t like to go for a full on lip color because I am very lazy with touch ups. I guess it’s pretty easy to find such lip glosses from any brand but I’ve been using Stila’s the most for 2013 so I’ve included them in my favorites.

IMG_5314

11) Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner

In the morning, I only use clear water to cleanse my face and then follow up with this toner that helps to remove any impurities. I really like this because if I use a cleanser in the morning, even if it’s a gel cleanser that’s supposed to be more gentle, it still tends to dries out my skin a little too much. So I find that cleansing with water and using a ‘stronger’ toner works the best for me!

12) The Body Shop – Moroccan Rose EDT

Fragrance of the year for me, simply because I love the rose scent a lot. Also, I prefer lighter scents this year as compared to heavier floral ones. Am now looking to try out Chloe’s Roses perfume too.

IMG_5309

13) Eyelash Glue

Best find this year! After wearing falsies for ~4years, I finally found the perfect eyelash glue! As compared to Dollywink, which was my previous HG eyelash glue, this is even better. Dollywink stays on really well but it can sometimes be a pain to remove without makeup remover. This eyelash glue stays on really well but you can remove it easily by tugging on the ends of the falsies!

Funny how I got the chance to try this out though. I left my travel makeup bag in a hotel in Shanghai last year, and had to buy an eyelash glue the next day since I was still hanging around in Shenzhen. So I decided to give this a go, didn’t expect much out of it but it blew my mind away! Of course, I was quite sad about losing my makeup bag because it had my favorite lipstick and powder but the silver lining is that I found an even more awesome eyelash glue!

************************

Whoo that’s an extensive list!

Overall, I feel that my skin condition has improved heaps in 2013 since I don’t struggle with breakouts too much anymore. Extremely elated about that, and areas that I want to target in 2014 is to look for a pore tightening essence and a good eye cream for dark circles! I don’t really have a problem with puffiness, only discoloration. I suspect it’s also due to me putting on eye makeup almost everyday. Woes of having small eyes.

Looking forward to trying more products in 2014, but at the same time I do not want to go too crazy with the hoarding! I feel like I didn’t do that bad in 2013, but there is always room for improvement.

Happy Sunday everyone xx

Hanskin Glossy BB cream

leave a comment »

I am going to do beauty reviews more regularly again, simply because I have a lot of products and I do like to keep track of what I think of the product when I was using it. Of course, hopefully it benefits you guys as well :p

Today’s star is Hanskin’s Glossy BB cream!

I am sure everyone is already familiar with BB creams and need no further introduction of the product. Hanskin is a popular Korean brand and their BB creams have been raved by many.

IMG_3367

This BB cream was included in a sample set that I got, containing x other BB creams, 10mL each. I had thought that it would be a good idea to try out Hanskin’s BB creams and also these little guys are super convenient to carry around when I am traveling!

IMG_3368

*My preference is to have a natural looking finish, slightly dewy so please keep that in mind while reading the below thoughts!*

Coverage: I find that the coverage is rather sheer but enough to even out my skintone which is what I want to achieve for a normal workday. If I need more coverage, I would either mix this BB cream with a higher coverage base or use a pressed powder on top of my base.

Texture and how to apply it: It spreads rather easily. I find that using fingers or sponge works out fine gives the same effect so it’s up to your preference!

Oil-control: I have saw a few reviews online saying that the oil control is good but sadly, it isn’t the case for me. It lasts for 3-4 hours before starting to shine.

IMG_3369IMG_3370

The photo on the left is taken in the morning before I leave for work while the one on the right is after a day of work.

I am not sure if you can see the difference (!) but I just wanted to make a note here that I blotted during mid-day and touched up with pressed powder. Otherwise, I don’t think the BB cream alone can last that long considering the hot and humid weather in Singapore.

Who would I recommend this to: Anyone who is looking for something to even out your skin tone, with dry-combi skin and likes the glowy look!

Do you have this BB cream? If so, let me know what you think of it! xx

Top 12 Beauty Products in 2012

with one comment

IT’S THE LAST DAY OF 2012!

Didn’t mean to be that dramatic about it, but as I was reading other people’s year-end posts, I got a little emotional and did some self-reflection as well. I started a new job in 2013, travelled less, got married to the most amazing man ever, and started going to church regularly.

These are the main highlights and I am not going to dwell on that because this post is about b-e-a-u-t-y!

I thought it will be fun to share what my top twelve beauty products in 2012 and my thoughts about them. Basically a lot of ‘omg I really love this!’ :p

I also tried not to ramble on too much, though 12 products will still be a lengthy read no matter what. Hope you enjoy reading! ^^

*Products listed in no particular order of preference*

IMG_2912

1) Bioderma – Sensibio H2O/ Sebium H2O

This has been amazing! I have heard of Bioderma being amazing and all on Youtube, but I don’t know why I didn’t pick it up when I was in Paris last year. It was only when it became widely available in Guardian that I decided to give it a try.

I have high expectations for it and it didn’t disappoint! Removes my makeup fantastically and doesn’t leave any residue on my skin, both Sensibio and Sebium worked well for me. Best makeup remover ever, works well on both eyes and face but I prefer to use a separate remover for the eyes (not sure why, just a weird preference). I will definitely keep repurchasing but also try out different removers at the same time since I go through them so quickly!

People have complained about the price but honestly, it is on 20% discount so often! After discount, it is $23.90 which I feel is reasonable for 250mL. Especially when comparing to Bifesta, another popular brand of water-based makeup remover.

And, I prefer Bioderma! 🙂

IMG_2918

2) Dollywink – Liquid Eyeliner

I bought this as I was rather curious about Dollywink’s products. I love it so much because it is very easy to use and doesn’t smudge. It also does not hurt my eyes while drawing, as some liners somehow can due to their brush being too hard. Removing it is also a breeze, no flaking and all. Just swipe and it’s gone.

Also, the thing is, up till this point, my preference has always been gel liner. So imagine how good it must be for me to use this everyday now. Or maybe my habits just changed haha

IMG_2919

These days, I am really preferring using a pencil liner to line my upper lash line first then using liquid liner really close to the lash line to get a soft yet intense look.

3) Dollywink – Eyelash Glue

I am someone who uses falsies everyday because my eyes are too small and mascara don’t do shit to my lashes. After enduring Ardell’s lashglue (it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t exactly great either) for ages, I decided to try different brands.

It took me a really long time to locate Dollywink’s eyelash glue. In between that period of time I was trying out other glues which didn’t manage to impress me. So imagine how happy I was to finally find it! And even more exhilarating to find that it works amazing-balls!

Like seriously. Here’s why – 1) brush is easy to work with, 2) glue stays on ALL DAY, 3) the amount of glue needed is minimal, therefore I am able to re-use my lashes more.

And the packaging is so cute! Major plus point.

IMG_2920

4) Benefit – Box Blush in Hervana

I am so glad that I picked this up! It is really a very pretty pink and goes with anything. If I can only take one blush along for a holiday, this will definitely be my choice especially if I will be away for long and want to do a variety of looks.

IMG_2921

It smells very nice too, and I have enjoyed using the brush that came along with the blush. Their quality of brushes included in their blushes have improved so much, thank God. It used to be so scratchy *rolls eyes*

Something that doesn’t sit right with me is that they reduced the quantity from 0.35oz to 0.15oz. Like huh? It’s not like I can finish one whole blush since I have so many others but surely they can reduce a little on the price? >.<

5) Benefit’s Watt’s Up

Ordered this on a whim during my last Benefit haul and I didn’t expect to love it so much ❤

Lights up my face very naturally when the sun hits, even my friends could see the difference! Very subtle and pretty.

IMG_2923IMG_2922

How I apply the product is to swipe some product on the back of my hand like my swatch and then pick up some of that with my finger tips to dab on my cheekbones.

Favorite highlighter now!

IMG_2928

6) Dior Lipstick in Shade 368

I got this sometime last year on a flight in a set of 5 (post here). It surprises me by being moisturizing enough to be applied on the lips without a lipbalm under, and this shade is the perfect pink for me. I have it in my makeup bag along with my lipstick of the day, because it is my fail-proof shade no matter what makeup I have on that day.

IMG_2929

Dior lip products never fail to amaze me (love their glosses too!), if only they are not so expensive x_x

IMG_2913

7) Rimmel London Kate Matte Lipstick

Got these from ASOS after seeing Haru’s post on them, and I am really surprised by how much I love them! It applies smoothly, stays on well, and the colors are brillant! It also does not dry my lips out, as some matte lipsticks tend to do. One thing to note is that it does have a strong candy smell to it, so for people who cannot stand fragranced products may want to take note of this. I am usually quite sensitive to scents but this was still alright for me as it is a sweet scent, and I love the formula too much to fault Rimmel on this haha.

IMG_2914IMG_2915

from left to right: 107, 110, 111

The 3 colors I got are all variations of reds and I am enjoying them especially for this time of the year. Very tempted to get all the shades to complete my collection >.<

My favorite is 111, Kiss of Life!

IMG_2924

8) The Face Shop Face It HD Perfect BB Cream

Best BB cream I have tried this year, and I love it so much that I am including it in my top ten!

I am a face product junkie, last August when I went Seoul, I bought a lot of BB creams back and still haven’t managed to get through the stash *sweats*

Anyway, I love BB creams because they usually include a lot of benefits like whitening, anti-aging, spf, etc. This one really impressed me because it covers up pores really well and gives me a flawless finish. When applied, it appears lighter than my natural skin color but by the time I get to the office, it will have adapt to my skin color. I have no issues with that since I drive to work anyway so no one will be noticing the different colors hahaha.

IMG_2925

It has a thick consistency, since it promises full coverage, but I prefer a medium coverage so I will mix it with a bb cream that has light consistency (I use Maybelline’s Dream Fresh 8-in-1). This makes it easier for me to blend too!

Oil control is so-so but it may be because I don’t have the habit to use a primer and a setting powder heh

IMG_2930

9) Skinfood Argan Oil

This past year has been a craze of argan and macadamia oil on Youtube! (have not been sucked into it though, phew)

Personally I am not a hair person so I have not paid much attention to taking care. But for the past 2 years I have been going to the same salon and starting to take care of my hair after much nagging from my stylist. I bought quite a few hair treatment oils to try out and I have really been satisfied with this!

Smells really good and detangles my hair very quickly. This is a new bottle as I lost my previous one, I suspect my mom kidnapped it because she loves it too! Highly recommend everyone to try it out 🙂

IMG_2927

10) Coco Chanel – Chance EDT

I am a perfume person, have I mentioned this before? I used to be really crazy but I have been cutting down. After moving to my new house, I only brought along the perfumes that I enjoyed the most (perfume collection soon maybe!).

This is actually a Valentine’s Day gift from T, because he loves the scent! Surprisingly, I have never tried it before but over time I have really grown to love this. It is my number one scent now, replacing Armani’s Blue Code which I still love but Chance is just more suitable for my style now.

IMG_2931

11) Etude House – Apricot Sticks

These babies I picked up in Korea last year randomly because I thought they were cute. Super moisturizing and tinted as well. I feel like these are the asian versions of Revlon’s Lip Butters, just that these Apricot Sticks are not as sticky.

IMG_2932

Usually use them when I am lazy and want a pop of color, especially on Sundays when all I have on is tinted moisturizer and blush.

IMG_2916

12) Skinfood – Sugar Bloom Shadow Box #3

This I also picked up in Korea!

I think it’s pretty obvious from my picture that I have been using the shade on the left the most.

IMG_2917

It is a beautiful neutral that is so easy to apply and works well on its own. There was a period of time when I used just this eyeshadow for days and days. But now I tried to spread my love around my other shadows too. I was actually eyeing another trio and now regretting not picking that up as well. Maybe next time?

***************************

And this marks the end of my 12 products! If you have made it to the end, well done and I hope you got some good recommendations on what to try out for the New Year. Do leave a comment if you did a blog post of such, or if you have any mind-blowing beauty discoveries you made in 2012. Please share!

You know, I keep thinking that my Korea trip last August was pretty blah. BUT after writing my reviews and realizing how many treasures I have uncovered, I am tempted to go there again! SHOULD I? Probably 😉

Happy New Year Everyone! xx

Pink Lips.

leave a comment »

After moving to my new place, I cleared out some stuff that I do not want anymore because the space that I have now is very limited. Previously, I had 2 places (one at my current place and one at my mom’s place) to store everything so I didn’t realize how much I have accumulated! 😦

I was looking through my lipstick collection trying to decide what to throw out/give away and having fun swatching them which makes it even more difficult for me to part with some of them haha, and these 2 lipsticks caught my eye.

Revlon – Pink in the afternoon and NYX – Tea Rose

Pinks is my favorite lip color because I love pink blush. I thought of blogging about them because they appeared almost the same on my lips.

The swatch on the left is Revlon while the right is NYX. Revlon’s Pink in the afternoon appeared slightly more orangey than NYX’s Tea Rose but honestly I couldn’t see much of a difference on my lips except that Revlon’s one appeared just a little more matte.

Just a boring story on how I chose to say goodbye to my NYX’s Tea Rose. Maybe more to come, or reviews hmmm…

Thank you for reading as usual, X

Watsons & TheBodyShop Haul

with one comment

I am guessing that everyone should know that I am a hopeless shopaholic. These items I got before my Benefit items arrived, so I am still good on the makeup ban! =)

Just a large paddle brush, eyebrow pencil and this Vaseline moisturizer that is supposed to make my skin glow.

I used to be lazy about body lotion but not anymore! Been very diligent about it so it is only natural that I got a few body lotions to try 😉

**************************

There was a Bodyshop atrium sale the other day at Velocity so how can I skip on the chance to get something from there?!

1) Vitamin E Serum – which I have tried and am absolutely loving it! It is very lightweight and absorbs into my skin very quickly so I don’t have to wait long to apply my moisturizer. In fact, I don’t mind applying moisturizer immediately.

2) Passion Fruit Body Scrub – I have tried it before and love the smell so this was a must-pick-up item for me. Anyone has got good body scrubs to recommend? I do want to try more brands!

3) Brazil Nut Define and No Frizz – it’s meant to be a heat protectant but instead of a spray, it is a cream. Figured that it would be usual for travel and no frizz sounds good to me! Has a smell that I am neutral to but if you are sensitive to fragrances, you might not like it.

4) Banana Banane Shampoo – this is totally an impulse buy!!! I only got it I remembered Elle from Allthatglitters said that it was one of her favorite shampoos. I am such a sucker, I have to get things that people are raving about!

5) Neroli Jasmine Shower Gel – got this because I needed a few more dollars to hit $80 for my purchase to get a $20 voucher. Love the smell of jasmine but most of the people around me seem to hate it =x

6) Deep Sleep Pillow Mist – my Bath&BodyWorks’ ones were mostly used up so I figured why not?

7) Deep Sleep Body Moisturizer – Like I said, I’m on a rage to try on body lotions now….and this smells heavenly so I decided to get the small size to see if I really like it.

Tip: sometimes, even if a body lotion smells good in the tub, it doesn’t mean that it will smell good on your skin. Even if it smells good on your skin, it doesn’t mean that you will be able to stand the smell after applying it all over your body so always get a small size to try it out first!

8) Moroccan Rose EDT – used my $20 off (a single purchase item) for this. IT SMELLS SO GOOD! I keep sniffing hard to smell myself throughout the day hahahaha. I might be biased because rose is one of my favorite scents ever but hey, I’ve never met someone who hates rose scented products!

Thanks for reading and I hope you had a great Monday and will have a good week ahead, xo

LoveMore Alps Spring & Phytoncide Moisturizing Mask (Review)

leave a comment »

Today I bring you yet another sheet mask review! I have been enjoying doing these surprisingly so I hope that you have enjoyed reading them too 🙂

LoveMore is a Taiwan brand that has been gaining popularity for its cute packaging. I tried NOT to be too much of a sucker for cute packaging for sheet masks since you throw them away after you use it so when there was a deal for 2 boxes at Watsons, it was a good time to try them out!

I thought I had taken a photo of the front and back but realised that I forgot. And, that was the last piece of the whole box -_-

The mask was slightly big on my face but I have no issues with that. It sticks to my skin pretty well, which is something I don’t usually notice but for this mask it just doesn’t move after I adjust it into place. I think this is an amazing point because some masks tend to shift which can get really annoying.

The material is not smooth cotton, I don’t know how to describe it but it looks like this:

As per the description: ‘Using ingredients from Apls’s spring with hyaluronic acid and phytoncide, this refreshing mask awakens your skin’s moisturizing ability, and allows your skin to absorb the beneficial effects from the mask easily and becomes moisturized instantly!’

After taking off the mask, my skin does feel more hydrated 😀 Something else to note is that it smells really refreshing but is not overpowering. All in all, I really did enjoyed using this mask and is very much likely to repurchase it!

The Faceshop CO-Q10 sheet mask (Review)

with 2 comments

When I was in Korea, I bought some The Face Shop masks because they were going for ~$1/piece as compared to SG’s price of $5/piece. I did not go crazy and bought a million pieces, in fact I think most of the masks that I bought were actually for friends/relatives!

Here’s today’s star!

CoQ-10 was one of the masks that I bought for myself. I have always enjoyed products that contain CoQ-10 because of the way the products made me feel. That being said, you do have to use a product for some time before seeing any results.

The cotton felt slightly rough against the skin instead of silky soft (but if you are not fussy, it should be perfect). The mask is slightly too big for my face so there were actually more than 1cm hanging below my chin area. I tried to stick it to my neck but it just wouldn’t stay so the essence just kept dripping which is quite irritating actually.

For the price I paid, I would say that it had done a good job but if you are willing to pay more, there is definitely better masks out there.

Thanks for reading! X
