The ‘Use-it-up’ Project – Goodbye

leave a comment »

I was going to do up the post as usual, but I deleted the photo by accident!

So it got me thinking, if I want to continue doing this and the answer as you can tell from the title, is no. I had enjoyed doing it in the past but right now, I would really prefer to blog about other things going on in my life, if I find the time that is!

Maybe I will still have the occasional beauty/fashion post, or maybe more mommy-related posts. No idea, and I guess I will just go with the flow.

The ‘Use-it-up’ Project (36) – October Edition

Trying to get back on track! Half a month late is better than 1 month late I guess. I didn’t think I will have enough products since I haven’t really been using a lot of skincare/body care products but I still do so let’s go.

20141101_141355_1

1) Yes to Cucumbers – facial towelettes

why did I buy it? as you guys probably already know, I love trying out new wipes!

first impressions? it is gentle and removes makeup pretty well.

upon finishing? I don’t mind repurchasing this again especially if I am going to US since it will be much cheaper over there.

2) Bioderma – Sensibio H2O

already my N number of bottle, search Bioderma under tags to read more. This is a sample size that I used for traveling but since I haven’t traveled recently, I decided to just finish it.

3) La Roche Posay – Thermal Spring Water

why did I buy it? used this mainly when my skin feels dry. I have one at home and one in the office.

first impressions? the mist is very fine, and it feels really good after spraying this.

upon finishing? The caps ended up destroyed because of the constant capping and recapping. I wouldn’t mind repurchasing this again when I am done with my other facial mists.

4) The Body Shop – Tinted Lip Balm in Cranberry

why did I buy it? got this in The Body Shop Christmas set in Cranberry scent my favorite!

first impressions? not really moisturizing at all but the smell and taste is good so I used it a little in the office since there’s where I have it.

upon finishing? as my lips were rather chapped due to pregnancy, even till now (!), I didn’t really use this much as it didn’t do anything for my lips. I recently opened it and it smelled weird so I decided to chuck it.

5) Jurlique – Herbal Recovery Eye Cream

why did I buy it? wanted to give Jurlique products a try as it is a natural brand which is what I am branching out into so I got a skincare set from them which includes this eye cream.

first impressions? when I opened it, there was a lot of wastage because of how the cap was designed. You are supposed to use the opposite end of the cap to twist it into the product to poke a hole, which is a really traditional way. The eye cream feels just like an average eye cream to me.

upon finishing? not very memorable and because I hate the packaging I wouldn’t repurchase.

6) Jurlique – Herbal Recovery Gel

why did I buy it? wanted to give Jurlique products a try as it is a natural brand which is what I am branching out into so I got a skincare set from them which includes this serum.

first impressions? it is rather sticky! and the scent is quite heavy too.

upon finishing? I got used to its stickiness, but I don’t think I will repurchase it due to that. Overall, it is quite an ok product though since I do believe that it does hydrates the skin really well.

Also backdating this just slightly to make myself feel better. Had planned to post this couple of days after my last entry but life got in the way.

Work is super crazy and stressful these days 😦 Keeping fingers crossed that 2015 will be better!

20141006_113735_1

1) The Body Shop – Aloe Calming Toner

why did I buy it? wanted to get something gentle as my night toner.

first impressions? it is rather soothing and preps my skin well for night time moisturizing.

upon finishing? I ended up using this for both morning and night after my Tea Tree toner ran out, since I didn’t have the chance to purchase this. Overall, it does its job as a toner well but nothing exceptional for me to repurchase it again.

2)The Body Shop – Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner

why did I buy it? had repurchased this many times as I felt it is a good toner for morning as I don’t use a cleanser in the morning.

first impressions? still loving it.

upon finishing? I didn’t have time to go get a new one but will do so sometime soon probably. Not in a rush since other toners have seem to worked too! 🙂

3) Simple – Cleansing Facial Wipes

why did I buy it? my favorite wipes so far in terms of value!

first impressions? really quick and removes makeup fairly well.

upon finishing? have a few packs as back up already. I do enjoy other wipes too, like This Works and Burt’s Bees but this is the easiest to get for me and cost-effective too.

4) Tony Moly Petite Bunny Gloss Bar

why did I buy it? got this when I was in Korea few years back because it’s cheap haha.

first impressions? super easy to use since it is a tinted balm. love it for days when I go makeup free but want a little color on my lips.

upon finishing? I do enjoy it but the color is probably not the best. prefer something slightly coral. Don’t mind repurchasing if I go back to Korea because the packaging is so cute but I actually do like the Etude House ones a little better!

5) Kate Gel Liner

why did I buy it? during a period of time when I was crazy over gel liner. Now I am all for pencil liners!

first impressions? rather difficult to line due to its consistency.

upon finishing? I still have quite a bit left as it is not one of my favorite gel liners but I am past that phase now so I have decided to chuck this out since it’s old!

6) Maybelline Gel Liner in Brown

why did I buy it? this is not my first as I did enjoy using it. brown is for days when I want a softer look.

first impressions? Love it as it stays on rather well and is easy to use. color is pretty too as it is a dark brown rather than light brown which will end up looking weird with my dark colored pupils.

upon finishing? didn’t finish this as well, but almost done! chucking this out because I won’t be reaching for it again and it’s old 🙂

7) Clean and Clear Acne Clearing Gel

why did I buy it? for days when an annoying pimple pops out on my face.

first impressions? it does work pretty well, my pimples do go away faster if I use this compared to letting it heal on its own.

upon finishing? it took me a long time to finish this tiny tube because I don’t have pimples often #humblebrag haha anyway it is quite good so I definitely wouldn’t mind repurchasing in future. But I hope I don’t have too!

The ‘Use-it-up’ Project (33) – July Edition

Another month has passed!

Feeling really sad as I will be sending baby T to infant care tomorrow, and officially returning to work on 4 Aug. Have been attending training from Mon-Wed this week and missed her so much already! ;(

20140725_153458_1

1) Crabtree & Evelyn – La Source Exfoliating Body Scrub

why did I buy it? got this from my mom 🙂

first impressions? very gentle and has a spa scent to it. as I am used to rougher exfoliants, I thought it was too gentle for my liking!

upon finishing? I grew to love this product because it is very gentle but still manages to leave my skin soft and smooth. The scent is also very calming. Will repurchase if I have the chance to step into a Crabtree & Evelyn store.

2) Korres – Almond and Linseed Nourishing Hair Mask (for dry/damaged hair)

why did I buy it? I enjoy a few other Korres products so I thought I could give this a try.

first impressions? it leaves my hair soft and clean. rather easy to wash off as well. hate oily/heavy hair masks that takes forever for me to rinse off!

upon finishing? another product that I enjoyed but the packaging is not ideal. The top spilt due to the water pressure (our shower head is rainforest style) so water kept getting into the packaging and destroyed the mask towards the end.

3) Crabtree & Evelyn  – Rosewater Body Lotion

why did I buy it? got this from a Black Friday sale two years back I think!

first impressions? I was really worried I wouldn’t like this because I used to have a hand lotion in Rosewater by Crabtree & Evelyn as well and I hated that scent! But this thankfully smells much better than the lotion. Not sure why the difference though.

upon finishing? I couldn’t really get all of the product out due to the packaging but it’s the only complain that I have. Am such a sucker for rose-scented products!

4) Missha  – Bling Bling Eye Shadow Stick

why did I buy it? thought this will be good for times when I am in a rush, or a base for smokey eyes.

first impressions? really easy to use, and is a great shimmery neutral color.

upon finishing? I didn’t finish it but did use it quite frequently since it’s the type of color I use in my everyday makeup. Decided to purge this as it is a few years old already and is starting to dry out.

5) Burt’s Bees – Facial Cleansing Towelettes (with white tea extract)

why did I buy it? as I have mentioned before, I just love trying out cleansing wipes! Burt’s Bees seem like a great brand as it is a natural skincare/makeup brand so I decided to give their wipes a go.

first impressions? I was quite worried since I remembered trying other white tea extract products and I didn’t enjoy the smell. But this had a pretty mild scent (but still strong compared to fragrance-free of course) and I really enjoy how it feels against my skin! Seems to cleanse pretty well too.

upon finishing? I find it really comparable to my Simple wipes and wouldn’t mind picking this up again!

6) Bath & Body Works– Anti-bacterial Hand Gel in fresh picked garden herbs

why did I buy it? got this as a gift from a friend.

first impressions? not a scent that I would pick up myself but it’s alright.

upon finishing? Love these anti-bacterial hand gels with their refreshing scents! Have a few lying around from my last B&BW order 😉 Using these up quicker than usual since I have a baby at home now.

Also cannot believe that 7 months of 2014 has already passed! I am starting to look forward to Christmas already haha 😉

The ‘Use-it-up’ Project (32) – June Edition

Been crazy busy for the past month since taking care of a baby alone is no joke. I used to think that it will be easy peasy, since all babies do is eat sleep poop right? WRONG. There’s burping, playing, rocking her to sleep which takes up a ridiculous amount of time fml but I will not succumb to a yaolan, doing her laundry, while trying to get my hygiene and meals in order wtf.

Have been doing this post in bits and pieces and am glad that at least it isn’t going up too late. Only the second of July today! *pats self*

20140626_130213_1

1) thisworks – in transit, no traces

why did I buy it? always on the lookout to try new makeup wipes since I go through them so quickly!

first impressions? it has a strong sweet scent (on the packaging it says Rosewater and Water Mint Infused pads) and is very wet. Cleanses really well, though I have to use two pieces instead of the usual one piece because the size is smaller than other wipes.

upon finishing? I really did enjoy using this and wouldn’t mind purchasing this again if it goes on sale on ASOS since it is rather pricey at around sgd$41.80.

2) L’Occitane – Pivoine Flora Shower Gel

why did I buy it? got this in a set of goodies I got in L’Occitane while I was in the states for my honeymoon. That was almost 2 years ago and I finally got around to using it!

first impressions? the smell isn’t something that I would usually go for, and it feels like an average shower gel but slightly thicker.

upon finishing? Don’t think I will repurchase unless I come across a scent that I can’t resist.

3) Simple – Soothing Facial Toner

why did I buy it? since I enjoyed the Simple makeup removing wipes so much, I decided to try more of their products!

first impressions? It has a strong witch hazel scent that threw me off when I first used it, but it is really gentle on my skin. I used it at night after I get out of the shower.

upon finishing? I got used to the smell and thought that it is a good basic toner. I may or may not repurchase this, because I am considering getting a softener instead so that my nighttime skincare can be absorbed even better.

4) Sephora Lipstick

why did I buy it? on a whim I guess, got this so long ago!

first impressions? I remembered enjoying this as it had a fruity scent and applies smoothly. However, since it is a dark color, I didn’t get a chance to use it as much as I would like to.

upon finishing? As you can see, I still have quite a bit left but like I said, I don’t use it much and it has been so long since I had it so I decided to throw it out. Planning to do some more purging in the upcoming months!

5) Lip Scrub

why did I buy it? got this in Tokyo few years back in a shop called Ranking Queen. It was ranked as one of the top sellers so I thought I would give this a try.

first impressions? it is rather thick and not rough at all. after washing it off, I feel like there’s a layer of moisture on my lips. tastes really sweet as well haha.

upon finishing? again I did not finish this product because I am not diligent about using it. But since I have it for so long already, I decided to toss this out. Currently using Fresh’s lip scrub instead 🙂

6) Aqualabel – White Up EX

why did I buy it? ever since last year, I decided to incorporate serums into my night time skincare routine as I was a quarter of a century old already. So I saw this on sale and thought of giving this a go as Aqualabel is a drugstore version of Shiseido.

first impressions? I like how it absorbs into the skin really quickly.

upon finishing? I am not sure of the whitening effect since much of my skincare is preventive so I guess we shall see if my routine works in the years to come. Overall I did enjoy the product as it was easy to use because of the pump and very lightweight. However, I didn’t manage to finish every mL of it since the pump couldn’t get everything out. Am not too concerned since this is not an expensive product.

Hope to be able to blog more in July!

The ‘Use-it-up’ Project (31) – May Edition

Another month has passed. I am not too sure if time is passing slowly or too quickly. Totally depends on when you ask me, if baby T is crying then I am most likely to be thinking that my days are as long as years now hahaha.

20140518_144506_1

1) Nivea – Sun Invisible Protection Transparent Spray

why did I buy it? there was a period when I went swimming every week so I bought this for sun protection.

first impressions? I really like how convenient the spray is and it was very easy to rub it into the skin as well.

upon finishing? I didn’t finish this at all because I stopped swimming in the mornings and started in the late afternoons when I felt that sun protection wasn’t necessary. Also this has a smell that I really didn’t enjoy. And I found another spray that is even more awesome from Biore which I used for my Maldives trip!

2) L’oreal – Smooth-Intense Anti-Frizz Serum (Leave-In)

why did I buy it? always looking for something to tame my hair!

first impressions? it did an average job at smoothing out my hair so I was quite inconsistent in using it.

upon finishing? I forced myself to use it everyday and I am glad that I managed to finish it but I very much prefer argan oil by Skinfood to this.

3) Clinique – All About Eyes Gel

why did I buy it? I have tried this before and it worked well so I repurchased it.

first impressions? love how hydrating it is.

upon finishing? The only complain I have about this is that it is in a tub which is unhygienic. It will also be great if it can solve my dark eye circle problems but overall, I do enjoy using this. Will definitely repurchase in future once I finished my current stash of eye creams.

4) Clinique – Even Better Eyes (Dark Circle Corrector)

why did I buy it? as I mentioned above, I really wanted something for my dark eye circles.

first impressions? love the cooling tip that depuffs the eye area.

upon finishing? I don’t see any improvements at all! Very disappointed as it was a rather expensive eye cream.

5) Steamcream

why did I buy it? another steamcream gone! Read here about what I think about it in previous posts.

6) Bath&Body Works – Candy Apple Anti-bacterial Hand Gel

why did I buy it? got this in a haul when they were having 5 for $5 promotion. So cheap! I always like to have anti-bacterial gel lying around in my purse and vanity area.

first impressions? love this scent! if I am not wrong, they only promote this during Christmas time. Not sure if they will still have it this year.

upon finishing? love it and don’t mind getting more of them since they are so cheap and smell ridiculously good.

7) Biotherm –  Anti-drying Body Milk

why did I buy it? got this in a Bellabox subscription.

first impressions? a rather thin body lotion that absorbs well into the skin.

upon finishing? I felt that it was pretty average, definitely not something that I would purchase myself.

8) Too Faeed – Lashgasm Mascara

why did I buy it? got this as part of a two faced makeup set that I decided to get!

first impressions? it is one of the better mascaras that I have tried as it lengthens well after a couple of coats.

upon finishing? Still prefer my falsies because they give me double eyelids!

Dreaming of a holiday right now ~.~

The ‘Use-it-up’ Project (30) – April Edition

Been slightly over two weeks since I gave birth! Omg. Been on an emotional roller coaster ride and still trying to settle in with baby.

Thankfully I did a draft of this post earlier so I just had to quickly make some adjustments. It feels good to be doing something that I used to do before I give birth (while pumping milk, nonetheless!).

20140329_144216_HDR_1

1) Korres – Wild Rose 24-H Moisturizing Brightening Cream

why did I buy it? got this as part of a skincare set that I bought, because I wanted to try out more Korres products.

first impressions? it is my third time using this, have finished two travel sized tubes earlier on. Find it to be more suitable as a night time cream.

upon finishing? it didn’t break me out but it also didn’t deliver any spectacular results. overall I think I still prefer a gel-based cream, at least at this stage in life.

2) Too Faeed – Perfect Eyes Eyeliner in Perfect Black

why did I buy it? got this as part of a two faced makeup set that I decided to get too!

first impressions? it is really black and stays on very well.

upon finishing? I have a little difficulty removing it at night but that should be due to the fact that I use very gentle eye makeup removers. This is a good basic liner that I wouldn’t mind purchasing again but not HG material.

3) Eyelash Glue

why did I buy it? again my favorite eyelash glue!

first impressions? most awesome eyelash glue ever.

upon finishing? still have two in backup which can last for sometime since I am on maternity leave now haha 😉

4) Clarins – Gentle Eye Makeup Remover

why did I buy it? bought this at DFS because I wanted to see if there’s any difference between expensive and cheap removers.

first impressions? it is scented rather strongly, but a pleasant one to me. As the name states it removes my day to day eye makeup well but if I have on more eye makeup, or waterproof liners, it gets a little tricky.

upon finishing? don’t think I will purchase this again since it isn’t really worth the money.

5) Bath&Body Works – Cotton Blossom Body Lotion

why did I buy it? got this during one of their crazy online sales and had it shipped to SG!

first impressions? smells really clean and takes a little time for me to work it into my skin.

upon finishing? I do like the scent but not really a definite repurchase for me. Wouldn’t mind repurchasing Bath&Body Works lotions

6) Bath&Body Works – Cotton Blossom Shower Gel

why did I buy it? same as above.

first impressions? just another normal shower gel.

upon finishing? don’t mind trying out other scents!

7) Elastin3 – Advanced Stretch Mark Therapy

why did I buy it? my clinic recommended this cream for stretch mark control.

first impressions? my nose can’t really detect any scent, this cream spreads rather well.

upon finishing? thankfully I don’t have much stretch marks, only slight ones on my thigh area. not sure if it’s due to this cream or genetics haha.

20140329_144317_1

8) Bath&Body Works – Market Peach

why did I buy it? one of youtubers’ favorite scent, of course I have got to try it!

first impressions? it smells extremely strongly of peach, duh. not sure why I would expect anything else.

upon finishing? it’s too sweet for my taste so I wouldn’t repurchase this.
