2014 Favorites

leave a comment »

Though I had titled this as 2014 favorites, I would say that these are my favorites after I gave birth since the needs I had before and after birth is way different.

And because 2014 is mostly about baby T for me, I decided to include things that she had really enjoyed too!

In no random order, let’s start.

1) Fresh – Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15

After I got pregnant my lips started getting drier and was always peeling. I had purchased this Fresh gift set that comes with this lip treatment as well as a sugar scrub so I thought of giving this a go. I really didn’t expect it to be any different from the other lip balms that I had used but it really made a difference! This feels luxurious on the lips and it definitely got rid of my dry lips problem. The fact that it is tinted is a bonus, ain’t nobody got time for lip balm, lip stick then lip gloss routine anymore lol.

2) thisworks – Sleep Balm

I love this! Ever heard of the phrase ‘sleep when the baby is sleeping’? The problem here is, how to sleep the minute the baby starts to sleep?! So I gave this a go and it really helped me fall asleep faster and better too. Haven’t been using it too much though because I think my body is getting used to sleeping once it gets the chance to. Ugh, really don’t miss the first 3 months of having a baby.

3) Earth Mama Angel Baby – Natural Nipple Butter

another thing that helped me survive the first few months of motherhood. I think I have had it rather good already, because I didn’t have cracked nipples all the time, only mostly during the first month and after that I don’t even feel that breastfeeding is a painful thing. This particular nipple butter really provided relief at that time and even now when baby T bites me occasionally with her razor sharp teeth. I also like that it is all natural so I don’t have to worry about her getting some in her mouth.

4) Solitaire Diamond Earrings

When you are a mom you don’t have that that much time or brain energy to plan an entire outfit. However I do still like some accessories and diamond earrings go with everything! My photo is from Tiffany but my pair is actually a wedding gift from my MIL 🙂

5) Skinny Bracelet

I used to wear my Pandora bracelet all the time until I have to carry baby T and was worried that this may hurt her. (now I don’t worry about it hurting her, but more of her wanting to pull it off and hurting me in the process fml) Ahem, so I was saying I do like having something on my wrist and this Tiffany bracelet is so light (compared to Pandora) that it feels like I’m not wearing anything at all!

There is also a story behind this bracelet. I actually thought I lost it after having it for a month, but turns out that it was in one of my bags hehe. Found one year later. Was actually contemplating on getting a new one, but luckily I didn’t act on impulse. Can use the money saved to buy something else! 😉

6) Fisher Price – Brillant Basics Rock a Stack

To be honest I bought these because they are cheap and colorful. I really didn’t expect baby T to like them that much. She has been playing with it everyday for the past 2 months and she reaches for this the most often. But of course she doesn’t stack them, you think she’s a genius? Hahaha. Mostly, she loves banging them on the table and together. She also loves dropping them on the floor and picking it up again, then repeat action for X number of times. I guess she loves them because it’s easy for her fat hands to hold? Lol.

7) Vulli – Lazare the Cat

This was a gift for her during her first month celebration and at first I was really doubtful of how much she would like it because it does seem difficult for her to hold on to it. But she has played with this since she was ~3/4 months old and she still reaches for this occasionally at almost 9 months now! This is awesome as a teether because it is of rubber, safer than most of the things she tends to put into her mouth anyway.

Vulli is the brand that is famous for Sophie the Giraffe and seeing that she loves Lazare so much, I thought she would love Sophie for sure! So I bought it and she still reaches for Lazare more than Sophie #wastemoneyonly I feel like if she had Sophie first, she may have loved Sophie more than Lazare but I guess we will never find out.

8) Bralettes (photo from cupcakesandcashmere)

I gave bralettes a chance after seeing Emily mentioned it on her blog. That was when I was in my third trimester and I was sick of the conventional bras, yes even the wireless ones. And to my surprise I love them! I still can’t make them work under certain clothing and most days I do wear a bralette. I also love how pretty and sexy they are, even though I don’t feel sexy very often these days. My favorite brand is Eberjey because they are so comfortable!

And that concludes my post. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!

The ‘Use-it-up’ Project – Goodbye

leave a comment »

I was going to do up the post as usual, but I deleted the photo by accident!

So it got me thinking, if I want to continue doing this and the answer as you can tell from the title, is no. I had enjoyed doing it in the past but right now, I would really prefer to blog about other things going on in my life, if I find the time that is!

Maybe I will still have the occasional beauty/fashion post, or maybe more mommy-related posts. No idea, and I guess I will just go with the flow.

The ‘Use-it-up’ Project (36) – October Edition

leave a comment »

Trying to get back on track! Half a month late is better than 1 month late I guess. I didn’t think I will have enough products since I haven’t really been using a lot of skincare/body care products but I still do so let’s go.

1) Yes to Cucumbers – facial towelettes

why did I buy it? as you guys probably already know, I love trying out new wipes!

first impressions? it is gentle and removes makeup pretty well.

upon finishing? I don’t mind repurchasing this again especially if I am going to US since it will be much cheaper over there.

2) Bioderma – Sensibio H2O

already my N number of bottle, search Bioderma under tags to read more. This is a sample size that I used for traveling but since I haven’t traveled recently, I decided to just finish it.

3) La Roche Posay – Thermal Spring Water

why did I buy it? used this mainly when my skin feels dry. I have one at home and one in the office.

first impressions? the mist is very fine, and it feels really good after spraying this.

upon finishing? The caps ended up destroyed because of the constant capping and recapping. I wouldn’t mind repurchasing this again when I am done with my other facial mists.

4) The Body Shop – Tinted Lip Balm in Cranberry

why did I buy it? got this in The Body Shop Christmas set in Cranberry scent my favorite!

first impressions? not really moisturizing at all but the smell and taste is good so I used it a little in the office since there’s where I have it.

upon finishing? as my lips were rather chapped due to pregnancy, even till now (!), I didn’t really use this much as it didn’t do anything for my lips. I recently opened it and it smelled weird so I decided to chuck it.

5) Jurlique – Herbal Recovery Eye Cream

why did I buy it? wanted to give Jurlique products a try as it is a natural brand which is what I am branching out into so I got a skincare set from them which includes this eye cream.

first impressions? when I opened it, there was a lot of wastage because of how the cap was designed. You are supposed to use the opposite end of the cap to twist it into the product to poke a hole, which is a really traditional way. The eye cream feels just like an average eye cream to me.

upon finishing? not very memorable and because I hate the packaging I wouldn’t repurchase.

6) Jurlique – Herbal Recovery Gel

why did I buy it? wanted to give Jurlique products a try as it is a natural brand which is what I am branching out into so I got a skincare set from them which includes this serum.

first impressions? it is rather sticky! and the scent is quite heavy too.

upon finishing? I got used to its stickiness, but I don’t think I will repurchase it due to that. Overall, it is quite an ok product though since I do believe that it does hydrates the skin really well.

6 months old!

with one comment

Baby T is 6 months old now! *throws confetti

I feel much more settled into my role as a mother now. During my last update, I was still hormonal and trying to adjust to this huge change in my life but right now I can’t imagine a life without her already. I do think it’s because she has become much more interactive and clearly shows a preference for me hehe 😉

So much love for this tiny human!

She is taking 130mL milk every ~3.5hrs during the day, and supplementing with formula once a day. There was a few weeks before week 26 when every feed was a nightmare, i.e. took a long time to finish or don’t want to drink at all but thinking back now, it’s probably a combination of teething and fussiness before Wonder Week 26. She is ok now, but gets easily distracted and bored so it is definitely much more difficult to feed her now compared to when she’s younger! I find that letting her hold on to a toy while drinking milk keeps her occupied, if not she will just keep fidgeting around.

Regarding solids, I initially wanted to start only after she reached 6 months old, but with friends/relatives starting their babies on solids and eating loads BEFORE their babies even reached 6 months made me nervous about baby T not being able to catch up #kaisumom So I got her started around 5 months.

Her first solid food was apple, which I steamed and pureed myself. But because she still has that tongue reflex, she can’t eat much at all so I felt like I wasted my effort. Then we started her on cereal which is mixed with EBM so at least there is something familiar to her. But still, the tongue reflex! The thing is, since she goes to school we can only let her try during the weekend since the school they won’t start any babies on solids until they are 6 months old. So, I have given up on pureeing food myself and have succumbed to buying jars from supermarket. I only started seeing a major improvement when she was a week away from being 6 months old when I gave her solids every day since she is home bound due to an episode of HFMD. So far, I have tried apple, butternut squash, carrots, banana. Planning to start on sweet potato and prunes next! And then back to trying making my own baby food again once her appetites goes up.

She is 8.2kg already! She has doubled her birth weight which is a good thing, and still at 90 percentile. Am amazed by how quickly babies grow in the first year of their life. One thing I know for sure, my arms are getting more toned these days from carrying her.

She is super playful! Especially love it when I sing to her, read rhymes but doesn’t get the concept of stories yet, play peek-a-boo. She loves it when we bring her out, because there’s so many people and things happening all at the same time. I love that she is super generous with her smiles, even to strangers as long as I am carrying her.

I try not to buy too many toys since she doesn’t really spend too much time at home, but even then, I find that she grows sick of the toys so quickly. Sigh! How should I entertain a baby at home?

She still goes to bed around 8pm every night and wakes up once a night. When she first started school, she woke up quite regularly around 4am every night but the past few weeks it has been unstable like between 2-5am. Well, at least it’s still once a night! We have shifted her to the cot after I started work and she adjusted well so yay to that. A few weeks before Wonder week 26, she also slept rather poorly, waking up every few hours. But thankfully after the Wonder Week has passed, she is back to being a sweet sleeping angel again. Phew. Same goes for naps! She napped super poorly, the worst was waking up after ten minutes! Of course she is cranky. One other thing that I wanted to note down here is that we still experience witching hour between 6-8pm. Some days are better than others, but today was especially bad. Bad = won’t stop crying unless someone is carrying her ._.

She doesn’t really blabber too much when she’s busy playing, only when she’s bored or sleepy. Like, before she sleeps especially for naps, she will go bah bah bah bah bah before nodding off haha. She now knows how to make ‘papapa’ sounds so T is really excited even though she doesn’t mean it. But she makes Mama sounds quite distinctively, still I am unsure if she knows what that means. One other significant thing that I want to record down is that when I ask her to say bye to her teachers, she will go ‘En’ or ‘Ey’. Most of the times anyway.

Motor Skills

She learnt to crawl one week before she turned 6 months! I think getting the playmat really helped because it is easy for her to move around. However, she can’t really sit up right but definitely getting better these days at 6.5 months. About a week back, she was able to go from sitting position to tummy position, and right now she is trying to do tummy to sitting. Sometimes she succeed and sometimes she don’t but it is something that I keep seeing her do.

She is also learning how to hold her cup! So cute.

She has HFMD during my birthday week, so that really sucks. I spent the whole week at home together with her and the first day was really heart breaking because she had fever and even vomiting 😦 Am glad that this is over already.

Also brought her to baby spa for the first time!

She was a little scared, especially when strangers touched her but I do think she will enjoy it if she goes again. But it is ridiculously expensive though, so I will probably just bring her to the pool.

That is all for now, and I am looking forward to creating more memories as a family. XOXO

The ‘Use-it-up’ Project (35) – September Edition

leave a comment »

Also backdating this just slightly to make myself feel better. Had planned to post this couple of days after my last entry but life got in the way.

Work is super crazy and stressful these days 😦 Keeping fingers crossed that 2015 will be better!

1) The Body Shop – Aloe Calming Toner

why did I buy it? wanted to get something gentle as my night toner.

first impressions? it is rather soothing and preps my skin well for night time moisturizing.

upon finishing? I ended up using this for both morning and night after my Tea Tree toner ran out, since I didn’t have the chance to purchase this. Overall, it does its job as a toner well but nothing exceptional for me to repurchase it again.

2)The Body Shop – Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner

why did I buy it? had repurchased this many times as I felt it is a good toner for morning as I don’t use a cleanser in the morning.

first impressions? still loving it.

upon finishing? I didn’t have time to go get a new one but will do so sometime soon probably. Not in a rush since other toners have seem to worked too! 🙂

3) Simple – Cleansing Facial Wipes

why did I buy it? my favorite wipes so far in terms of value!

first impressions? really quick and removes makeup fairly well.

upon finishing? have a few packs as back up already. I do enjoy other wipes too, like This Works and Burt’s Bees but this is the easiest to get for me and cost-effective too.

4) Tony Moly Petite Bunny Gloss Bar

why did I buy it? got this when I was in Korea few years back because it’s cheap haha.

first impressions? super easy to use since it is a tinted balm. love it for days when I go makeup free but want a little color on my lips.

upon finishing? I do enjoy it but the color is probably not the best. prefer something slightly coral. Don’t mind repurchasing if I go back to Korea because the packaging is so cute but I actually do like the Etude House ones a little better!

5) Kate Gel Liner

why did I buy it? during a period of time when I was crazy over gel liner. Now I am all for pencil liners!

first impressions? rather difficult to line due to its consistency.

upon finishing? I still have quite a bit left as it is not one of my favorite gel liners but I am past that phase now so I have decided to chuck this out since it’s old!

6) Maybelline Gel Liner in Brown

why did I buy it? this is not my first as I did enjoy using it. brown is for days when I want a softer look.

first impressions? Love it as it stays on rather well and is easy to use. color is pretty too as it is a dark brown rather than light brown which will end up looking weird with my dark colored pupils.

upon finishing? didn’t finish this as well, but almost done! chucking this out because I won’t be reaching for it again and it’s old 🙂

7) Clean and Clear Acne Clearing Gel

why did I buy it? for days when an annoying pimple pops out on my face.

first impressions? it does work pretty well, my pimples do go away faster if I use this compared to letting it heal on its own.

upon finishing? it took me a long time to finish this tiny tube because I don’t have pimples often #humblebrag haha anyway it is quite good so I definitely wouldn’t mind repurchasing in future. But I hope I don’t have too!

The ‘Use-it-up’ Project (34) – August Edition

leave a comment »

I didn’t mean to disappear for over a month. Thing just happened, work is crazy. Every time I tried to update, I just got tired and prefer to scroll through my IG feed instead. And baby T is now down with HFMD. Maybe more on that in a separate blogpost.

So I am going to back date this post to make myself feel better haha.

Rather boring mix of products this time round but any-oh-how, let’s do this.

1) Banyan Tree – Hair Shampoo in Thai Chamanard

why did I buy it? fell in love with the scent when I stayed at Banyan Tree Bangkok so I decided to get this at their shop.

first impressions? Love it as I felt it cleanses my hair pretty well.

upon finishing? although it is a good product, but I am not sure if I will repurchase because I am on the hunt for better shampoos. Also, it is difficult to get my hands on it!

2) Air Freshner in Jasmine

why did I buy it? because this is one of my favorite scents! a lot of my friends dislike it though.

first impressions? love it, just a simple clean jasmine scent.

upon finishing? I have a tiny bit left but I can’t be bothered finished using it as I have a lot of air fresheners at home. Felt that the product itself is just ok, since the scent doesn’t linger on too long. Also on a personal note, I have grown to prefer more complex scents these days although I am sure I will go back to simple scents in future haha.

3) Sephora – Daily Makeup Brush Cleaner

why did I buy it? use this as a quick sanitizer before makeup for used brushes.

first impressions? it is quick and easy so I really love it.

upon finishing? I have repurchased this before and will keep on doing it unless I see something else worth trying.

4) Bath&Body Works – Pocket Bac in Eucalyptus Mint

why did I buy it? super handy to have this everywhere around the house and in my bag!

first impressions? love it that’s why I keep repurchasing it. Love this scent as well.

upon finishing? I will continue to get more whenever I order from Bath&Body Works. Going through these so quickly these days because of baby T.

5) Majolica Majorca– Perfect Automatic Liner in GD802

why did I buy it? there was a good deal at Watsons! Although I can’t remember how much I got it for. Probably 20% off?

first impressions? too liquid-y and it is difficult for me to control the amount I want.

upon finishing? as I was using the Dollywink Liquid Liner before this, it took me some time to get used to it but I finally figured out that two clicks is all I need. The plus side of this liner is that it is rather easy to remove. However it dried up while I was on maternity leave. Well, I was almost done with it and ready to move on to a new liner anyway so no harm there.

6) Skinfood – Pencil Liner

why did I buy it? remember a few years back when glittery white liner on your lower waterline is all the rage? I got this for that hahaha 😉

first impressions? love it because it gives the effect that I want.

upon finishing? as the time goes by and the trend fades, I stopped using it. Also because it is difficult to remove, somehow when I thought I had finished removing it, I move and see a glitter speck still on my eye FML. This is also quite old so I might as well chuck it out.

Back to work!

with 3 comments

Started work 2 weeks ago on 4 Aug and sent baby T for her first day of infant care on 1 Aug which is a Friday.

Her first day was uneventful, albeit the fact that they actually gave her some other baby’s EBM because there were 2 new babies on that day wtf. Don’t know whether to be happy that she accidentally got an extra bottle of breastmilk or freak out. Anyway, the teacher said that she didn’t fuss while drinking which is expected because she is ok with BM or formula, and even the oral Rotavirus vaccine hahaha.

And on Monday when we brought her back, she was so tired that she actually slept through the night (usually she still has to wake up for 1 night feed). She also started coughing and it soon developed into a phlegmy cough along with a runny nose that we brought her to the PD on Wednesday. After bringing her to the PD, she started pooping even more often (after every feed) zzz. I think this is the first time I have seen her being so listless so we decided to keep her home on Thursday since T was around and my mom could come over in the afternoon to help. Even then, she slept a lot and even fell asleep by herself while T took his morning shower. Friday I worked from home and thankfully we had a long weekend since Saturday is National Day so she rested for 5 days at home.

By then, she has slowly recovered so we sent her back on Tuesday. Actually is because we had no choice since both of us had to work. And Thursday morning T flew off (morning flight at 7am!) so I had to handle baby T all by myself for 2 nights. Thank God it is a very short trip this time round! T opt for ungodly hours just so he could minimize the time away from home J He is super worried because I always have a ton of things to carry, i.e. my bag, pump, baby T’s school bag and of course the baby who is already a hefty 7.3kg! He even casually mentioned to my mom that he is worried that I wouldn’t be able to cope after I reached home from work but he said that my mom’s reaction is that I should be fine. To that, I felt disappointed but I should have expected it I guess. Even though she kept saying that she is willing to help but talk is cheap. I told her that I am looking for a new house and she told me that I should move closer to her so that it will be easier for her to come over if I need the help, but come on, how often will she be willing to come over?

So, on Thursday morning, I was all ready for a battle but surprisingly, baby T slept after I nursed her during the morning so I breezed through my morning chores. At night she was not too grumpy, and I even managed to sneak a quick shower before starting her bedtime routine! *fist pump* She refused to drink from the bottle that night though so I nursed her.

On Friday, it wasn’t as easy as Thursday because she woke up around 6plus but still manageable while I whizzed around the house trying to get stuff done. It was Friday evening that I was most amazed by myself. Because it was the weekend, I had to bring baby T’s bedding stuff on top of her regular clothes and whatnot from the centre to wash. And so I carried her, my pump, her stuff, and my bag up in one go! The most difficult part was locking the car and opening the door but I DID IT. For a moment I did feel like my back was going to break though haha.

But I am glad to have survived.

Everyone is always asking me why my mom is not willing to take care of baby T, especially since she is the FIRST grandchild in the family. I really do not know what to say, make up some feeble excuse or tell the truth? The truth is that she rather have her freedom! Who cares about baby T potentially exposed to a lot of germs and very possibly HFMD? Who cares about me having to spend a ridiculous amount on infant care? True, she did come over a few times during my maternity leave in the afternoon when T is traveling (and that is only after telling my auntie that I had intended on getting part time help and my auntie said that my mom should come over so I can save that money for baby T’s other expenses). But everytime I ask her for help, she always guilt trip me and I know that this will come back and haunt me one day too. She says that she doesn’t show favoritism. She said that she spent the most time on me during my childhood to make me feel more loved (only after learning from my friend that I repeatedly told everyone in school that I hate my mom). And she kept saying that I am her daughter and she is willing to do anything for me and I should understand since I have baby T now.

Right and? All these are just talk. And she asks why I keep holding onto old grudges, then proceeds to complain to everyone about what an unfeeling daughter I am for not calling her to show concern.

Ugh. I can’t even. Gonna end this post right here.
